The University of BC Landscape Architecture Programme provides a community-based studio course for its graduate students each spring, and this year we are focusing on Mayne Island. The students will be studying the landscape character and sustainability of the Island community, as background to the forthcoming update of the Official Community Plan. The study will focus on:

  • The changing rural character of Mayne Island over time
  • Recreation/tourism opportunities and constraints
  • The 'Ecological footprint' and sustainability of the community.

The project is sponsored by UBC, Islands Trust, Capital Regional District, and the Mayne Island Trustees. The study is led by Associate Professor Stephen R.J. Sheppard from the UBC Landscape Architecture Programme.
